Framing a Jersey

Do-it-yourself Rating: Advanced

Whether your jersey sports the autograph of a
famous ball player or the scrawled signatures of a
winning t-ball team, it can be framed easily and
economically by following our simple step-by-step
instructions.

Materials:
- 29-1/2 x 35-1/4 Shadow Box Matte Black frame
- 29-1/2 x 35-1/4 Crescent C3366 Really Red mat board with no window opening
- 29-1/2 x 35-1/4 Foam core backing board
- 29-1/2 x 35-1/4 Plexi-glass

You will also need:
- upholstery needle and thread
- a regular screwdriver
- picture hanging wire

Let's Get Started!

STEP 1
Measure jersey & select frame.

Determine the portion of the jersey that will show and where it will be positioned within the frame. Measure the height and width to determine the size of your frame, mat board, foam core backing board and plexi-glass.

STEP 2
Secure jersey.

Lay jersey on solid piece of mat board. Arrange as desired. With threaded upholstery needle sew the jersey to the mat board, stitching at numerous points for a secure hold. Bring thread from the backing board through the jersey and return through the backing board. Tie off and tape loose ends.

STEP 3
Prepare plexi-glass.

Peel off one side of the protective paper on the plexi-glass. Place the exposed side of the plexi-glass down on the mat with your jersey attached. Peel off the remaining paper.

STEP 4
Assemble the frame.
Assemble three sides of the metal frame, (both sides and bottom). Insert the plexi-glass, your mounted jersey and the foam core backing board into the frame and attach the top portion of the frame.

STEP 5
Finishing touches.

Tighten the corner brackets and insert Spring Clips between the frame and the Mounting board to secure the jersey. Attach the hanging hardware and wire.

Our SpringMate makes inserting spring clips quick and easy.
